Seattle Playwrights Salon is a nonprofit performing arts group dedicated to promoting and developing original plays written by playwrights living in the Pacific Northwest. We do this through several different platforms; we offer staged readings of new works-in-progress, workshops for playwrights and actors/directors working on those projects, educational opportunities for theater professionals and individuals who want to be involved with theater, and ultimately through live performances of these new works. As such, we provide a platform for all of us to support each other and create new ways to tell stories on stage. Whether you are a developing playwright just starting out, a veteran theater artist wanting to continue growing, or someone who simply wants to see new works developed and performed, you will find a supportive community at Seattle Playwrights Salon that is passionate about telling new stories.
Every new play starts with a single idea. Every idea needs the opportunity to grow. Seattle Playwrights Salon supports playwrights by providing them with an opportunity to get their work read aloud, receive constructive feedback from a real-time audience and work closely with talented actors and directors. In doing so, we foster an atmosphere of encouragement and support for writers, helping them take the raw material of their script and turn it into something truly unique and engaging. We also believe that by creating this type of environment we can build a stronger sense of community among theater makers here in Seattle.
All of our programs are designed to meet the needs of playwrights at all stages of their careers. From early-stage script development, to fully-staged readings (or full production), we strive to provide as many options for creative expression as possible. All of our programming is focused on allowing both our audience members and playwrights the ability to engage with original works in a way that allows for dialogue (both formally and informally) and the exchange of creative ideas. The Seattle Playwrights Salon welcomes writers, directors, actors, designers, producers, theater administrators as well as anyone who is interested in becoming a part of a thriving arts community that celebrates the art of storytelling. Whether you are writing your very first play; planning your next staged reading; looking for ways to collaborate with other theater artists; or just want to see some of the best new work before it makes its way to a theater near you, the Seattle Playwrights Salon would like you to be a part of our growing community.
Seattle Playwrights Salon is an original work development home and a collaborative space for artists to explore their creativity through support from the community; we foster an environment in which all new ideas are welcomed and where diverse voices are encouraged to share their unique perspectives and experiences, thereby fostering meaningful connections. By providing a creative platform for original work, our hope is that we will help enhance the richness of Seattle’s cultural scene while also celebrating the vision of playwrights throughout the Pacific Northwest.
